Rehabilitation project of the so-called observation building in the Kazbegi recreational area
3.6 km from Gudauri is the “Peace Monument”, which was built in 1983 and dedicated to the Georgievsky Treatise. The architect is Gogi Chakhava, and the artist-designer is Nodar Malazonia. In 2017, the monument and its surrounding area were rehabilitated by order of the Kazbegi Municipality.
On the monument, part of the mosaic tiles of the painting panel was damaged and lost as a result of vandalism. New tiles were made using identical materials and technology.
Smalt is an alloy of colored glass that contains the smallest particles of air. Making tiles is a complex process that requires great precision. Colored glass is melted in a furnace at a temperature of 1000 to 1200 degrees. It should be noted that panoramas made with similar technology have survived only in a few countries.
The asphalt pavement was removed from the monument square and the pedestrian path and basalt slabs were laid. Reinforcement works were also carried out on the structure. In particular, the stonework was restored and a reinforced concrete belt was installed in the upper part of the structure, which was also faced with basalt stone.
New railings made of square tin tubes were attached to the structure.
Paving stones for pedestrians, drainage slabs and curbs were laid near the monument. A parking lot was also built.
The company provided outdoor equipment for the territory to make it more pleasant and comfortable for visitors to relax. Benches, bicycle racks and garbage bins were installed. The territory is completely adapted for people with disabilities.
The project was implemented in accordance with the technical specifications and the requirements of the Ministry of Infrastructure.
